When God Uses Community to Remind Us of His Promises

A few Saturdays ago we joined some friends at the movies.  It was a good day!  Later that evening after dinner we decided to watch a TV show together. And that’s is when our circumstances changed, suddenly. Without warning we were in a state of chaos.  It was frightening.  I didn’t know what to do, having experienced a situation like this before and not knowing how long it will last and what it would entail.

I messaged a group of my friends and asked them to pray.  When I couldn’t focus enough to pray… they did…  And pray they did! Specifically Psalm 91, A prayer of divine protection. Things settled enough that we could get some sleep and morning finally came; things seemed better but not 100%

Later in the morning, I received a text message from someone that served on the Security Team alongside my husband at our previous church. She wanted to know how we were doing and to let me know that God had put us on her heart. Wait!  Whatt?!  We hadn’t spoken in over 3 years.  I can’t tell you how much that meant to me, the timing was perfect. Right after I replied to her text message, my pastor (as we watched online)  finished up his sermon with these words…

I recieved a text from someone I hadn’t spoken to in over 3 years, she said God had put us on her heart. The timing was perfect.

He sees me

He hears me

HE KNOWS

He comes

I sought the Lord and He answered me and delivered me from all of my fears!
— Psalm 34:4

Our pastor always reminds us he prepares his message weeks in advance, so talk about perfect timing. And at just the right time…the perfect time…  he reminded me of God’s promises in the midst of the circumstance.

How many times have you found yourself in a circumstance that causes such an emotional reaction that you forget to remember ALL the promises of God? I encourage you to ask your believing friends to pray for you, and to pray with you. Use the people surrounding you to help you remember to remember!

Mark 9:24- I believe, help me with my unbelief!

Psalm 34:4- I sought the Lord and He answered me and delivered me from all of my fears!

Galatians 6:2- Carry each others burdens and in this way obey the law of Christ.

Lamentations 3:22-23- The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. The are new every morning, Great is your faithfulness!

No matter the season, her deepest desire is to walk closely with the Lord and help others do the same.

She feels most connected to God in the quiet of her home, seated at her dining room table with Scripture open and creation just outside her window. She also comes alive when teaching and watching truth settle into someone’s heart, and during moments of worship that remind her of God’s presence and power. Her favorite verse, 2 Corinthians 12:9, reminds her that His grace is always sufficient and that God meets her most powerfully in weakness.

Through her writing, she hopes readers feel understood and reminded that they are not alone in their struggles. With her well-worn Bible always nearby, Donna offers gentle strength, Scripture-filled encouragement, and the reminder that grace is for every season.
